Helping to provide scrubs for healthcare workers in Vic, Australia during the COVID 19 pandemic
Healthcare workers on the frontline are in desperate need for PPE for the coming weeks and months as they battle the Pandemic.
To try and ease this aspect for these workers, we are creating a Melbourne-based community led initiative, linking up local sewers and fabric suppliers to create scrubs that will be essential as they go into battle for us.
Healthcare workers on the frontline are in desperate need for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for the coming weeks and months as they battle the Pandemic. They are at incredible risk with countries overseas having up to 1 in 10 of their healthcare workers infected. Adequate personal protection and large volumes of it will help protect workers so that they can stay well to help the community. To try and ease this aspect for these workers, we are creating a community led initiative, linking up local sewers and fabric suppliers to create scrubs that will be essential as they go into battle for us.
Happy Scrubs are a Victorian based initiative who are seeking collaborators - local volunteer sewers and fabric and sewing suppliers, to make PPE that will be paramount in keeping our health workforce, and communities safe.
Distribution of the scrubs and PPE will be done in collaboration with Fairfield Paediatrics and frontline medical organisations, and will go straight to the hands of the workers that need them the most.
As our health workforce doubles or triples in size, we can all help our communities stay as safe as possible as we battle COVID-19 together.
BECOME A HAPPY SEWER
Thanks for your overwhelming support. Due to a very high number of registrations, we have closed applications for sewers for now. If you are able, you can continue to support The Happy Scrubs by donating to our GoFundMe.
DONATE HAPPY FABRIC
Happy Scrubs desperately requires fabric and sewing supplies for our sewers. Can you help by donating or discounting fabric?
WHAT DO WE WANT?
Cotton fabric or lightweight chambray, 40mm elastic for pants, interface and thread
HOW MUCH DO WE NEED?
Each set of scrubs will need approximately 5m of fabric, 2m for the top and 3m for the pants - we will take any offcuts or bolt ends that might be suitable. Smaller offcuts can be used for scrub caps.
WHO CAN DONATE?
Anyone! Any sewing and fabric suppliers, home sewers or collectors can donate appropriate fabric for the cause. Is it time for a fabric clear out?!
